As several you might heard, Skype is offering free calls to landlines and cell phones to the US, BUT, this service is just oriented for US/Canada residents. People should be asking, how they detect the origin of the user? Well the question resides on the IP address. There are several companies that specialies on having a map of which ip addresses belong to which countries.
The idea in here is to try to trick Skype servers where are you located.

If a large number of your friends and family are on Skype, then a plan such as 3’s X-Series — which includes a fixed number of Skype-to-Skype calling minutes direct from your mobile each month — can sound tempting. However, as Decoder points out, those free minutes are restricted purely to the official 3-sanctioned Skype mobile client, in large part because Skype on 3 runs as a callback service rather than ‘pure’ VOIP.
That means you can’t use alternate clients such as previously mentioned Fring to consume your free minutes.

Hutchison’s new mobile handset subsidiary called INQ has a new handset called the INQ1 which is set to target the social networking hungry youths. The INQ1 isn’t that much to look at, a frumpy looking slider with a half decent screen, but inside is a huge amount of software.
The social networking angle with the INQ1 if of course FaceBook, and the INQ1 has an integrated FaceBook application that rivals that of FaceBook’s own work with the Apple iPhone.

In a blog published Thursday, Josh Silverman, Skype’s president, explained he did not realize that TOM-Skype, Skype’s partner in China, was logging and storing users’ instant messages that were deemed offensive by the Chinese government. He said the company knew that instant-messaging chats were monitored by the government, as all communications in China are. And he explained that Skype disclosed this to users in 2006, explaining that a text filter was being used to block certain words in chat messages.
